nicole reynolds - poems

past is past but it still lasts

i sat there with the darkness
of the universe in my eyes
swollen and lost
thinking of your holy day
in the dark, dark waves of the ocean
with a really long string
you held onto all these years
my arms stretched out 256
miles but never made it
past the whiskey
and the tide
and my mind burns when it wanders

what's the answer
the rhythm of the waves
the height of our senses
i can't see it's so dark
but i can feel every second of it
it makes me want to steal
the ocean from your memory
and give it back to the moon
your hands tracing her body
my hands tracing yours
foolish
how i always think i know what
people are thinking
how i thought i knew what
you were thinking
how i thought i knew it all
